In the lesser visited wards of the city, down a dark and dirty alleyway, there rests a dark well. Whenever locals are asked, none can recall the last time water was drawn from the blackness below. In fact, even a thorough search and questioning will result in no one recalling the last time the well was in use. The common end result of any discussion on the well will end with the following statement:
"I'd steer clear of that foul hole if 'twas me."
Further questioning will result in the learning of the following 'facts':
1- On the Lord's Day, a foul smell will pass your nose if you stray too close to the well.
2- Yes indeed, water can be drawn from the well, water black with death and decay!
3- I've seen hundreds...thousands of bats pouring out of the well as the sun sets.
4- Once a fortnight an eight legged creature will be seen climbing from the hole. It scurried off into the shadows, I was too afraid to follow!
5- I once seen a man pulled into the well by a many tentacled thing! Wait? Was I on the spirits?! Of course not!
6- In me younger days I held a map to treasure, change my fate it would, a breeze nipped if from me hand and into the well it blew. Ye find it, return it to me old hands!
7- Something black and foul stirs in the well as the sun rises, as if afraid of the light from above.
8- One night as I stumbled from the pub, a large eye, big as a man! rose out of the well and stared at me. Stopped me in my tracks it did!
The well is in fact home of a nasty vile creature that exits the well in the black of night to stalk on people of the city. What is it?
