Halflings (ODD Race)

I discovered a handful of recent stripped down D&D hacks online this last week. One immediately jumped out at me, probably because of the old school aesthetics they used in its layout. I mean, look at it!

You can check out One Depth Deeper here: https://blk-feather-press.itch.io/odd

Now you are probably thinking, "Another D&D clone....ugh. Why???" Well, because we keep playing around with rules and ideas and this one has some interesting things that change it (some drastically) from what you think of when you think of D&D.  BUT first, I have to take care of one serious problem:

NO HALFLINGS!

Seriously, like wtf. So I wrote one up. Not sure if it balanced or anything but who cares. Games must include halflings for me to read/play. I am still reading through the rules but I am liking what I have read so far. Perhaps I will find the time to actually play a game!

Halflings

Halflings are small, stout folk with nimble fingers and an uncanny ability to go unnoticed. They love hearth, food, and simple comforts, but when adventure calls they prove surprisingly brave. They may only use small and one-handed weapons, and cannot wear armor heavier than Chainmaille. Shields permitted. Halflings may advance as: Thief, Fighting Man, Cleric (though rarely priests of high station).  Cannot become Magic UsersRangers, or Druids.

  • Gain +1 AGILITY or +1 WISDOM.
  • Suffer –2 Caste and Wealth adjustment
  • Halflings may hide in shadows or behind cover on a 3-in-6 chance outdoors, or 2-in-6 indoors, even if others cannot. This functions like a Thief’s special Hide in Shadows skill but is innate.
  • Halflings gain +1 To Hit with missile weapons (sling, bow, thrown weapons).
  • Once per day, may reroll a failed save vs. Death or Breath (taking the better result).

Check out those character sheets! That goldenrod!  #nostalgiaoverload
