My pal Talon showed me this cool, FKR-style minialist RPG that is on kickstarter right now, and after reading through it I decided I need to do a...character card for it! It's what I do....

Pretty neat little game, very rules thin, and the author Zac did a fantastic job of whittling the words do to just what was needed, no fluff.

...and because I cannot leave well enough alone, I redid these as 3x5 cards for Tricube Tales! I think I prefer these over the larger cards. I think it would be great to have a whole party printed out on these little cards.

 

Tricube Tales Character Cards

I recently discovered Tricbue Tales and I have to say I am really quite impressed. Yes, it is rules lite and yet still can provide a wide depth of play and can seemingly handle nearly ANY genre. Don't believe me? Head over to the creator's site (link below) and find the links of the right side. The first 3 are links to rules, the rest? Settings. SETTINGS!  Want to play errand running trolls in dirigibles? Robbers in Sherwood? Interstellar smugglers? Jedis? Gangbusters? Stranger Things? Werewolves? Ghostbusters? Firefighters? Pirates? Weird West defenders? Each of these little settings are great springboards from which you could launch into a campaign for a creative DM. 

Anyway, I am planning trying to squeeze in some sessions, and you know me, I cannot leave well enough alone, so I made a character card to use in the game....

White Box FMAG Character Cards

I have posted these before but I wanted to make sure these were not lost among my blog twenty years from now so I posted my character cards over on Itch to make sure they are and will always be available. White Box Monster Cards!

 

Played around a little today to make more White Box Monster Cards. I had them in season 1 and people comments how they liked them. I like the visual connection (e.g. something tangible maybe?) on the table in front of me. 

These have all original artwork made in Mid-Journey. I am really enjoying MJ in practice, just wish I could somehow teach it that hobbits/halflings wear no shoes and have large feet. Come on!

White Box FMAG compatible logo

TheGreenTap over on Reddit asked if there had ever been a "Compatible with WB:FMAG" logo. I did not recall one and so I went to work because, well, I love White Box. After a little back and forth I finally settled on the design below. As with the OSR logo, this is released Free Forever into the Public Domain with no attribution requirements or possibility of being revoked in the future. Long live gaming.

OSR Compatible Logo

I just realized (yeah I know, five years) I never released a version of the OSR logo with a 'compatible' phrase on there. So, I fixed it. This will be added to the main logo page too but I know most will not see this until I do a new post. So here you go! Same as before, released to the public domain forever.

For those curious, the Affinity and PSD files are on the main logo page (link in the upper right side of the blog near the logo. Long live gaming!

White Box FMAG Treasure Generator!!

I have said for a long time that the treasure tables in white box were absolutely horrible and unusable unless you had at least a college minor in mathematics. Gabe Fua released the White Box:FMAG Treasure Generator recently and it is an absolute miracle. Thank you, Gabe!

Shadowdark Character Cards

 

I made these little character cards for a solo Shadowdark game I plan on starting this weekend (click to open the PDF). You can print out this PDF, or like I am doing, import into Goodnotes and write directly on it with your Apple Pencil. The second page is optional, I like having lines across the flipside for random notes that come up in game.

NoteQuest: Character sheet & Dungeon Sheet

Scott Kirby, a fine fellow over on the NoteQuest FB group converted the Notequest character sheet from its native Portuguese but he properly put it on paper sized for the rest of the world, not us silly blokes in the US. So with his permission, I converted it to a US letter sized page.

White Box NPC cards

 

I have been playing a solo White Box game for a few days now and I am developing NPCs in the locations the PCs frequent and I wanted a similar system to the character sheets I posted recently so I tweaked the design I had into an NPC card. Might still make some changes but I wanted to share.

I am using a handful of random tables, a few books, and some Tarot cards for much of the game's direction. Thinking I might compile/combine these into a single document for ease of use but also so that others might be inspire to try their hands at solo RPGing.

White Box index character sheet!

 

You have no idea how long I have been looking for a 'good looking' but useful index card character sheet for White Box FMAG, as in one you could actually print on a 4x6 card. There are some floating around but many are either too verbose with stuff or they are just plain ugly to look at. I have been thinking about how to make one and today I had a couple of hours of messing around to get something I actually liked. Thanks to Alex and Steve for suggesting improvements to the design. I am going to keep playing with it and will drop a PDF once I am fully happy with the design and it has been vetted in play.

I am planning on starting up some more solo gaming and I wanted an easy to read, not-fugly, card to use for my characters. I am thinking I may make something like this for NPCs in the game as well.

DDiW: how to use an oracle

 

I tend to record audio messages to some good friends in the evening when I walk my pups. Tonight as I was out walking, I started thinking:

What does Uti know about the area our little group is exploring?

Then I remembered I had installed a die roller on my Apple Watch (while their phones suck goat balls, they did a bang up job with their watch, Google needs to buy a couple of these and study them). Recalling MUNE, I decided to do a little oracling while I was out with the pups....

Does Uti know of a location nearby that we could explore? Yes

Are they ruins? Yes, and...

Are they occupied? Yes

Are they mundane creatures? No (by mundane I mean normal creatures we might find in our world: bears, raccoons, monkeys, cows, tigers, etc)

Are they fantastic? No, but (meaning mythic, something we would expect to find in D&D monster manual sort of thing)

This caught me off guard and I had to stop and think for quite a bit before it dawned on me. What is not a mundane creature but also not fantastic? Only one thing came to mind: 

Are the ruins occupied by men? Yes!

Do these men stand against Whorle? Yes, but

Are they waiting waiting for something? Yes, and...

Are they waiting for a certain person? No

Waiting for something? Yes

Is this thing in Whorle? No

Does someone in Whorle know where this thing is? No

Is the leader of this group fantastic? Yes, and

Can he work the dark arts? Yes, and

Is he undead? Yes

Does this leader know where this thing is located? No

Is this leader interested in Whorle? No, but

Is there something beneath Whorle? Yes

In summation, utilizing my watch while out walking the dogs, I was able to determine that Uti knows of a camp in a nearby ruins where a group of men who serve some undead master is searching for some artifact, but he needs this artifact before he enters Whorle, likely because of something that lies beneath Whorle. So, just to be clear, using a simple oracle and my own imagination, asking questions, I was able to come up with what could easily be a campaign-defining outline

Also, I bought a bunch or dice, check 'em out.

Whiskey dice

 Goofing around on Amazon the other day I stumbled upon a recent fad of drinkers called Whiskey Stones. These are stones you chill in your freezer to pour your whiskey over to chill it without diluting the drink.

As any gamer worth his weight in gold, I immediately saw them and though "OMG they are d6s!"

For just $12 on amazon I picked up TWELVE massive granite d6s that put my normal dice to utter shame.

I mean look at it! These are heafty, solid, and stood up to pretty harsh tossings on my desk. I need to figure out a better way to mark them than a sharpie, but I received them in the mail just now and wanted to start tossing them.

In a pinch they could be sling stones as well. ;-)
